As
the holiday season nears, it is vital to remain focused
on safety while out on the road. And to help you get
through the holidays and the coming year safely, here
are four tips on how you can improve your driving
habits.
Tip
#1... Pay attention to your own condition. Too
many late nights, either with friends or family or
just staying up late playing Santa can lead to personal
fatigue that can affect your driving. Fatigue slows
your reactions, impairs your judgment and can make
it difficult for you to drive safely. And, as always,
never ever mix alcohol and driving.
Tip
#2... The holiday season means that the winter
season is upon us. Driving safely in the winter means
preparing yourself and your vehicle for potential
bad weather. Pay attention to weather forecasts and
don't start a trip you think you might not be able
to finish. When you are out on the road, slow down
to maintain control and increase following distance
to give yourself extra space.
Tip
#3... There will be lots of people driving during
the holiday season, leading to heavy traffic and delays,
particularly on weekends and in shopping areas. Expect
delays, plan your trip around them and take it easy.
And, remember that not every driver will have a good
idea where they're going or in which lane they need
to be. Expect a little confusion and watch out for
it!
Tip
#4
Remember, there's only one of you, and
your friends and family need you around now and all
through 2008. Don't risk injury or worse. You know
how to drive safely - practice your skills. Safety
behind the wheel starts when you spot hazards early,
react to them correctly and are driving slowly enough
with adequate space around you so that you can avoid
an accident.
Enjoy
your holiday season and remember to include driving
safety in your New Year's resolutions!
