COMMENTS SOUGHT TO ENSURE APPROPRIATE CMV FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

FMCSA is seeking comments on current regulations for commercial motor vehicle (CMV) carriers of property that cover public liability, property damage and environmental restoration, and carriers of passengers to cover public liability and property damage, to ensure an understanding of the sectors’ minimum levels of financial responsibility.

Forms MCS-90 and MCS-90B and Forms MCS-82 and MCS-82B contain the minimum amount of information necessary to document that a motor carrier of property or passengers has obtained and has, in effect, the minimum levels of financial responsibility as set forth in the published regulations. The request is an extension of a currently-approved information collection.

FMCSA and the public can verify that information, and comments on any aspect of this information are invited, including whether the proposed collection is necessary for the performance of FMCSA’s functions; the accuracy of the estimated burden; ways for the FMCSA to enhance the quality, usefulness and clarity of the collected information; and ways that the burden could be minimized without reducing the quality of the collected information.

To make comments, go to the Federal eRulemaking Portal and follow the online instructions using the agency’s name (FMCSA) and including Docket Number FMCSA-2015-0436. The comment period ends on April 25, 2016.
