POTENTIAL BRAKE PROBLEM PROMPTS RECALL FOR OVER 6,000 TRUCKS

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has ordered a recall of more than 6,000 Volvo models of certain 2013-2017 VNL, VNM and VNX trucks, due to some of those models having faulty electronic air dryer systems that could affect the vehicle’s braking performance.

According to the recall report, certain parameters used to control the cycling of the electronic air dryer are incorrect. The parameters were set too low at 1/3 of the required volume of air to purge the drying agent.

Has your truck been recalled?

As a result, more condensation may occur and be passed through the air system. This may allow oil and water to contaminate the brake system which, over time and under certain conditions such as cold weather, may affect brake performance.

Currently, there have been no reports of accidents associated with the defect. Therefore, Volvo has already notified dealers of the issue and provided repair instructions. The NHTSA recall number is 16V928. Owners will be notified of the recall by February 17.
