TRUCKING EMPLOYMENT GAINS IN JULY AFTER 5 MONTHS OF LOSSES

After five straight months of employment declines, trucking added jobs in July, according to the latest data from the Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In a month where the overall economy added 255,000 nonfarm jobs, trucking saw employment increase by 1,700 positions. For-hire trucking employment stands at 1,455,800 positions as of July.

Transit and ground transportation added 4,400 jobs in July after shedding 6,000 positions in June and gaining 600 jobs in May. Transit and ground transportation employment stands at 477,600 positions as of July.

The transportation and warehousing sector as a whole added 11,700 jobs in July.
