Trucking Deaths on the Rise

Heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers suffered 745 fatal injuries in 2015, the most of any occupation, according to the latest Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics’ national census of fatal occupational injuries.

For truck transportation specifically, 2015 saw 546 fatal occupational injuries, up from 503 in 2014.

Fatal work injuries overall involving transportation incidents increased 9% in 2015 to 1,264 and accounted for 26% of all fatal work injuries.

For roadway fatalities, 629, nearly half, involved a semi, tractor-trailer, or tanker truck.
