TRUCKING ALLIANCE SEES DRIVERS AS KEY COMPONENT OF TECH REVOLUTION

The Trucking Alliance is making clear that it supports the development of advanced vehicle technologies, but only when used in conjunction with drivers. In a statement, the Trucking Alliance makes four points on its support of such technologies:

Driverless trucks? The Trucking Alliance had some thoughts

1) That it supports “advanced driver assisted technologies in commercial vehicles, rather than commercial vehicles that rely solely on full automation”;

2) That it believes commercial drivers are “an indispensable asset to the safe operation of commercial vehicles”;

3) That commercial drivers are "necessary to improve the safety and security of the public"; and...

4) That commercial drivers are “integral to supply chain accountability, as well as managing unforeseen weather events, emergencies, detours, vehicle conditions, computer software programs, cybersecurity disruptions, cargo security, and in providing efficient customer services.”

The Trucking Alliance says advanced driver assisted technologies could help trucking achieve safety performance levels that rival commercial airlines.
