TRUCKING EMPLOYMENT GAINS FOR SECOND STRAIGHT MONTH

Trucking employment gained for the second month in a row in August after five straight months of declines, according to the latest data from the Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Trucking added 3,400 jobs in August, following a gain of 2,200 positions in July (upwardly revised from a gain of 1,700 positions).

Trucking employment stands at 1,459,700 as of August. Transit and ground transportation also added jobs for the second straight month, with a reported employment gain of 2,200.

Transit and ground transportation added 5,100 jobs in July (revised upward from 4,400), shed 6,000 positions in June, and added 600 jobs in May. Employment in this sector stands at 480,200 as of August.
