Last month a tour bus stuck on a Biloxi, Mississippi railroad crossing was hit by a train, resulting in the death of four passengers and injuries to 41 others.... 

The DOT says the program “supports innovative projects, including multi-modal and multi-jurisdictional projects, which are difficult to fund through traditional federal programs.”

The basics of class time involve instruction on the operation of the vehicles, including instruments and controls, how to perform pre-and post-trip inspections, how to operate at night, distracted driving, hours of service.... 

They apparently discussed health care, but truckers are hoping they discussed some unpopular regulations as well.  

These provisions forced drivers to take breaks at very specific times, regardless of sleep schedules, delivery times and traffic conditions.... 

When you spend 11 hours a day behind the wheel, it's not exactly easy to find time for exercise, nevertheless a nutritious meal while on the road....

The program, the letter adds, allows for older diesel vehicles to be either retrofitted with updated technology or retired and replaced, to the benefit of “the nation’s health and environment.”

The study concludes that "fleets with the highest turnover rates generally have higher crash rates and poorer CSA scores than fleets with less driver turnover."

Senior Master Sgt. Thomas Karnes, the Air Force logistics vehicle operations superintendent, says, “This [will] ensure everyone is working off the same sheet of music. Once the program is wholly accepted and recognized by each state’s DMV, the intent is to provide a one-for-one swap for a military license to obtain a CDL for the applicable vehicle, without taking the additional tests. This helps us transition veterans into the commercial sector as well.”
